During the tour, a knowledgeable guide will lead you through the Basilica Cistern, an underground reservoir built in the 6th century during the reign of Emperor Justinian I. Known as the "Sunken Palace," the cistern was designed to store water for the Great Palace of Constantinople and other nearby buildings.
